"... After researching tour companies on the Net and through travel forums for more than a year, I finally found what I was looking for: All One World Tours, (www.1worldtours.com) led by Ruth Shilling...

She promised what I wanted most -- "time and space in the temples and pyramids." In addition, we were going to a place off the tourist trail that had captured my imagination in art history class -- the ancient city of Tel el Amarna...

Our local guide, Ehab, maker of deals and Egyptologist extraordinaire, came through for us in a spectacular way. After the tour buses had pulled away, leaving the dust to settle over the plateau, our group had exclusive access to the interior of the Great Pyramid. Instead of being nose to tail on the steep stairs with hundreds of other people, we were free to explore on our own...

We spent days at Luxor and Karnak while busloads from other tours were allowed only an hour. Holding their hats, they craned upwards to catch a glimpse of the lotus and papyrus columns before being hustled across the river to the Valley of the Kings and the Temple of Queen Hatshepsut, leaving us in peace...
